Way to go, BusinessWeek!

I just paid my P.O. box a visit and was thrilled to find BusinessWeek featuring this story on the cover:

I haven’t read the article yet, but I’m tickled just seeing a major business media outlet taking flex work and the meeting timesuck this seriously. Plus, check out these sidebars:

Rock on, Best Buy! And you go, BusinessWeek. I’m off to devour all three pieces. If I hate the articles, you’ll be the first to know tomorrow. Would love to hear what some of you think, too (nudge, nudge).

    The “How to kill meetings” sidebar really struck a chord in me. I’ve been involved with this project lately and so far in the past two weeks, around eight meetings have already been called for it. I think I’ve only attended around three or four. I really don’t see the point of those frequent meetings, especially since they usually run up to five hours. I often feel like telling people, “Just let us actually DO the work!”

    i am so with you, lynn. i know people who have to block out meeting time with themselves in their outlook calendar so their colleagues think they’re already booked and can’t invite them to a meeting, JUST SO THEY CAN GET THEIR ACTUAL WORK DONE. when you’re in meetings 35 hours a week and only have 5 hours to get your real work done, something’s wrong.

    Funny, I’ve used the “I have another meeting” excuse to get out of my aforementioned project’s meetings too. It’s sad how those things are actually very counterproductive.

    Oh, I haven’t told you yet how much I love your site. :) My sister’s planning to start her own business very soon, so I’ll be giving her your book next year to help her along.

    i also love that you use “i have another meeting” to get out of meetings. very schmart. if my clients weren’t reading this blog, i might confess that i’ve been known to do that too. (wink)
