[...] ParkPlace Books in Kirkland, Washington, is one such store. According to an email from the two owners (both women), the store was flooded and in the dark for many days. But they’re up and running now, back to business as usual — except for the fact that they have a lot of sales to catch up on. So if you’re near the east side and have some lit gifts to pick up, show ParkPlace Books some love. [...]

lynn, i haven't read all of the book, but so far, it's great. some of the authors in it (because i don't think amazon lists them all): aimee bender, jennifer egan, mary gordon, holiday reinhorn (who ROCKED the seattle reading!), curtis sittenfeld, etc etc. props to editor elizabeth merrick, who i neglected to mention in the post.

I'd love to get my hands on This Is Not Chick Lit. I started reading such books when I was 18 and stopped less than six months later. While there are lots of entertaining titles, they all tend to become wearying. One can only have so much room on her shelves for books on women griping about men, love, work, weight issues, etc.
