Lists you can use

February 2nd, 2007

lists you can useWhile I practice for my upcoming TV and radio interviews (details to come), I thought I’d entertain you with these helpful lists I recently read on small business and work-from-home trends:

Entrepreneurial myths debunked: Brazen Careerist, the ever-insightful blog of journalist Penelope Trunk, recently ran a list I love called “8 outdated notions of entrepreneurship.” Seriously, if there’s one link you click this week, it should be this one. Among the old chestnuts she debunks:

  • Women will get power in corporate America and change it (Debunk: we can get what we want by starting our own enterprise)
  • Entrepreneurship is all or nothing (Debunk: many people start businesses on the side and live to tell)
  • Starting a business is risky (Debunk: most jobs end while most businesses succeed)

Work-from-home gigs that don’t suck: Not long ago, MSN ran this list of legit home-based jobs that you, too, can do (provided you have a modem or phone). Among them: being a mystery shopper, working for a consumer call center, and starting your own eBay business.

Top 10 trends in small business: At the start of the year, USA Today ran this list in two parts. (Part 1. Part 2.) Among the top trends: Web 2.0, E-marketing Is King, and Microbusiness Is Here to Stay. Oh, and if you think the top trend is The Portable Office, think again.
