The New York Post is colorblind

February 12th, 2007

NYP@workIn this snarktastic roundup of five new business/career books (including mine), the New York Post sets out to eviscerate everything in its path. In the parallel universe that the Post lives in, my book has a pink cover, only appeals to chick lit fans (because everyone knows that’s all Bust and Bitch subscribers read), and offers great advice if you have a rich boyfriend.

Still, I’m honored to be simultaneously deemed a “guru” and dissed by such a well-read publication, along with some high-profile books I saw prominently displayed in my local bookstores. And my boyfriend (who neither supports nor lives with me) was thrilled to hear that he’s suddenly rich.

But he just has one question: When will his big fat Rich Boyfriend Check arrive?

HA! Hilarious. All your cover needs now is a pair of high heels, and then it can be TRUE chicklit.

harsh. but really, it’s THE POST, so who cares!?! : )

i just meant because the new york post is hardly a literati force - they only care about gossip and it’s doubtful they actually read books (same goes for those who read the post).

While it’s not surprising that the Post runs so-called “book reviews” that are actually only opps for their reporters to entertain themselves, I thought this chick was particularly bitchy re Anti. And, there’s no excuse for getting the COLOR wrong. Duh.

thanks, xina and jill. you ladies rock my world!

Wow, that is a truly, stupendously bad review. Not “bad” in the sense of negative (which of course it is, though laughably so), but in the sense of poorly-researched and idiotic. Just to chime in on the pink / high heels / martinis theme, our greatest fear about book covers is to end up with a cover that includes a briefcase and high heels. Ack ack ack. The other much-abused chicklit cover-art trope is a pair of women’s legs — no torso, no head, just legs. Usually wearing heels, of course…

The NY Post is good for one thing: Page Six. And even that’s corrupt, but it’s still fun. I’d put more stock in reviews found in Cat Fancy than the Post. (Unless one of my friends writes the review, but that bitch is no friend of mine.)

thanks, ladies. it’s been fun seeing my west-coast-born friends pick up my copy of the POST and say, THIS IS THE RAG THAT TRASHED YOU? IT’S NOT EVEN A REAL NEWSPAPER. that’s when i actually go into Champion Of The Post mode and tell them that it’s an honor to be dissed by a National Enquirer wannabe. heh.
