Hi there,
I am currently in my just-after-quarter-life-crisis brought on by grad school. I have started to think about what careers might fit me. And I have recently rediscovered my interest in writing. I am reading your book and just visited your site for the first time today (how fortuitous, I still have a shot at the tix). I am still in the planning chapters of the book as well as what my "business" will be and look like, but I am very excited about a future of my own making. Right now, ideas center around writing...writing about cooking, about life, about nature, and writing as a sub-contractor for environmental consulting firms (the only one on the list that I have any true experience in). As you can see I am a little all over the place. Still working out the road map :)

Thanks for the opportunity to throw my name in the hat!

I love Washington. I love wine. I love Washington wines! I'd like to open a wine bar/retail space specializing in Washington wines and showcasing wineries who currently do not have tasting rooms in the Seattle metro area. Using state of the art technology to dispense perfect pours of properly stored wine, customers could taste that very expensive bottle that they could never afford to buy but would love to taste. Or, what about finding the best buy out there from a little known treasure of a winery? . I'd like for more people to enjoy the art of winemaking in our wonderful wine state!

Kara, I love your business model. Cool. I'm not the event organizer, but I'm sure Jackson Fish Market will love it when they see your comments. Also, are you wanting to be entered in my informal blog drawing for the free event tickets?

see our invention, WallingfordSaves.com!

Our best business idea for independent businesses (retail, restaurants, services) is one we've tried, tested, and has grown to around 40 local businesses. We work with our neighboring businesses to cross-promote each other this way. Receipts from one participating business are used for discounts (or value added products) at neighboring businesses. When our customers have the program explained to them they are delighted and excited, and often will immediately go and use the program at a nearby participating business. This has three immediate effects: first, it promotes a general sense of the area as a neighborhood where businesses work together, Two, it cuts down on car usage, as people who might drive out of the neighborhood to a "big box" store to save money, stay in the neighborhood since they can save money at the local shops. Three, it promotes the neighborhood as a place for people outside the neighborhood to visit.

Thanks for reading and organizing this interesting looking conference. We just found out about it this in today's Times, and are sad that it's full! But that's good for you, and we hope you hold many more.
